Addressing Drought in Burkina Faso
A drought affecting millions of people in Burkina Faso has led to a food crisis as crops fail, market prices rise, and livestock die. All 20 CCFC-supported communities have been facing poor harvests and water shortages.
At the beginning of the year, CCFC launched an emergency response campaign to provide food and supplies to families in need. So far, more than 75,000 kg of cereal (rice, maize, other staples) have been distributed to about 3,000 families. CCFC has also hired a nutrition specialist to set up and train committees that check and follow up on children’s nutritional status. Around 1,000 families have also received seeds and fertilizers to be used during the rainy season to help them recover their livelihoods.
